The purpose of this project was to create an original letter type. From doing basic research and looking up different styles of design both through the past and present as a source of inspiration. My basic design style that is seen in my work and such influence is nature, abstraction, and geometric shapes. From my research, I found some similar styles that match my style and influence in Japanese art and design. So, for my inspirations, this project includes Japanese calligraphy, woodblock prints, and modern graphic design. The point of the project is to showcase the innovation of this period of Japanese style in art and design throughout the years.
The last two designs represent the style of modern Japan design. Through my research on Japanese design, I noticed some of the common elements that I saw in Japanese graphic design include geometric shapes, linear lines, bold colors, and minimalist illustrations. The two designs I created shows these commons elements I’ve seen from some of my research in Japanese modern design. To keep cohesiveness, I used the red dot from the first design.
